Teeth Whitening

A smile that stops traffic is something every one of our patients deserves. If you’re shy about showing your smile due to discoloration or yellowing teeth, call Dental864 to hear about the fast, easy and effective ways we can brighten your smile.

Take Home vs In Office Treatments

In-office treatments

are made for people who want to sit down with discoloured teeth and walk out the door with a glistening smile.

Take-home treatments

from Dental864 also contain their unique whitening gel and are only available from a dentist. The treatments take as little as 30 minutes a day, depending on your current level of discoloration. When it’s time to apply the gel, it goes into a tooth-shaped tray that fits around your teeth. After a designated amount of time — something you’ll discuss with our dentists — take the tray off, rinse your mouth and watch your teeth gradually brighten. At home whitening kits are a great compliment to in-office treatment.

FAQs

  • Does teeth whitening damage my teeth?

No, modern teeth whitening solutions are perfectly safe and will not damage your tooth enamel or existing dental restorations.

  • I have crowns or veneers. Will teeth whitening change their colour as well?

No, teeth whitening agents only affect your natural teeth. If you’re looking to go many shades whiter than your existing colou, you may need to consider separate treatment for your existing restorations. Ask your dentist about the options.

  • Are teeth whitening agents toxic?

Not when used properly. Most of the substances used to whiten teeth are chemicals that are produced naturally by your body, including carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide. However, the old saying “the dose makes the poison” applies. When used properly, teeth whitening agents are not toxic. But you can get too much of a good thing. That’s why you should conduct teeth whitening under the supervision of a dentist.

  • Does whitening toothpaste work?

These toothpastes will clean off surface stains, but they won’t change the colourr of your teeth. They are most useful as an upkeep routine after you’ve had your teeth professionally whitened.

  • How long will the whitening last?

It depends on the type of whitening treatment you choose and what kinds of food you eat. If you regularly consume teeth-staining substances like coffee or red wine, your whitening will not last as long. Generally speaking, patients who want to keep their original whiteness will need to come back for a touch-up treatment periodically. This might be as frequently as every six months, but it’s more usual for patients to go a year or two between whitening.

  • Will my teeth become permanently sensitive?

No, any sensitivity from teeth whitening typically resolves within a few days.
